North South University’s Central Library recently concluded its highly successful Library Orientation Program for the newly admitted students of the Spring 2024 semester. With a focus on familiarizing students with the array of resources and services available, the program left approximately 1,700 attendees equipped with essential skills for academic success. Held from February 04 to 08, 2024, the orientation program featured a series of informative sessions led by esteemed library officials. Mr. M M Shoeb, Senior Assistant Librarian (Deputy Director), kickstarted the event with a comprehensive briefing on the general rules, regulations, and operating hours of the NSU Library, laying a crucial foundation for efficient navigation of the library space.

Subsequent segments, conducted by Mr. Abdul Hakim, Mr. Tanveer Ahsan, Mr. Ziaur Rahman, and Mrs. Sumaiya Kainat, delved into the effective use of the Library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for locating books and resources. Students were guided through the vast collection, enabling them to find materials relevant to their studies effectively. Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Senior IT Officer, provided invaluable insights into accessing scholarly articles and research materials online through Online Journals & eBook databases. This session aimed to equip students with essential library research tools, enhancing their academic prowess and fostering a love for learning.

An engaging instant quiz added an element of excitement to the program, allowing students to showcase their knowledge. Quick learners who answered correctly were rewarded with copies of the book titled ‘The Unfinished Memoirs (Oshomapto Attojiboni)’ by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a revered figure in the nation’s history.

The program concluded with an immersive library tour led by knowledgeable library officials. Participants were introduced to various library sections, including the circulation desk, reference section, reading areas, and digital resource centers. This hands-on approach enabled students to feel at ease in the library environment and empowered them to make the most of its facilities.
