October 15, 2025 – North South University Library successfully conducted an on-demand Information Literacy Session for the Executive MBA (EMBA) students enrolled in the course BUS 535. The session took place at NAC 602 and was organized to support students in developing essential research skills, particularly in conducting literature reviews, managing references, and accessing digital library resources remotely.

The primary objective of the session was to enhance students’ ability to perform effective literature searches using scholarly databases, manage and organize references efficiently, and correctly cite sources in their academic reports following the Harvard referencing style.

The session was conducted by Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director, NSU Library, and Mr. Md. Ashikuzzaman, Library Officer.

Mr. Rajiv Mahmud began the session with an overview of the NSU Library services and facilities, including membership registration, book borrowing and return policies, and an introduction to the library’s extensive collection of online databases and digital resources. He also explained the OpenAthens remote access system, guiding students on how to obtain and use their accounts to access library e-resources from home or off-campus.

Following this, Mr. Md. Ashikuzzaman delivered a hands-on demonstration on how to search and retrieve scholarly literature using the Scopus database. He highlighted techniques for formulating search queries with appropriate keywords, analyzing research trends, and identifying relevant academic works.

The session also covered the installation and use of Mendeley, a reference management tool, for organizing research materials, creating citations, and generating reference lists in Harvard citation style within Microsoft Word documents. Additionally, participants were introduced to other useful research tools available through the library, including Grammarly, Turnitin Feedback Studio, and other academic support resources.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students shared their queries and experiences regarding research and citation management.
