The Central Library of North South University successfully organized a three-day Library Orientation Program for newly admitted students of the Spring 2026 semester on January 18, 19, and 20, 2026. The program was designed to introduce students to the library’s wide range of resources, services, and facilities, enabling them to effectively support their academic and research activities.
Approximately 1,600 newly admitted undergraduate students from all departments participated in the program through a total of 12 different orientation slots. The sessions were carefully structured to ensure that all participants received essential guidance on using the library efficiently from the very beginning of their university life.
The program commenced with a comprehensive introductory briefing conducted by Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain Shoeb, University Librarian, along with Mr. M. M. Shoeb, Senior Assistant Librarian (Deputy Director), Mr. Abdul Hakim, Assistant Librarian, and Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director. This session covered key topics such as library rules and regulations, membership and circulation policies, and operating hours, providing students with a strong foundation for navigating the library environment.
Following the introduction, a series of in-depth instructional sessions were conducted by library professionals, including Mr. Tanveer Ahsan, Mr. Ziaur Rahman, Mr. Rifat Mahmud, Mr. Miron Khan, Mr. Sadat Sayem, Ms. Sumaiya Khanam, and Ms. Amrita Rani Dash. These sessions focused on practical demonstrations of the Library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), helping students learn how to locate books and other library materials efficiently. Students were also introduced to accessing scholarly articles and research resources through subscribed online journals and eBook databases, equipping them with essential tools for academic success.
To make the sessions more interactive and engaging, an instant quiz was organized during the program. Students enthusiastically participated, and those who answered correctly received special gifts from the NSU Library, adding an element of excitement to the learning experience.
The orientation program concluded with a guided library tour, where students were introduced to major service points and facilities, including the circulation desk, reference section, reading areas, and digital resource centers. This hands-on tour helped students become familiar with the physical layout of the library and encouraged them to make full use of its extensive resources and services.
