North South University (NSU)
Library observed National Library Day 2026 through a three-day series of
academic and engagement activities from 5 to 9 February 2026, in line with the
national observance declared by the Government of the People’s Republic of
Bangladesh. The programs were organized under the theme “Knowledge brings freedom and builds the future (জ্ঞানেই মুক্তি,
আগামীর ভিত্তি)”.
The observance began on 5 February with awareness and library service promotion activities, followed by a workshop on “Understanding GenAI: Basic Generative AI Literacy” on 8 February, focusing on identifying, evaluating, and using GenAI responsibly, critically, and ethically. Besides, various user-oriented initiatives, including instant research consultation services, recognition of active library users, and fine waivers for long-overdue materials, were also offered during the program period.
The celebrations concluded on 9 February 2026 with a seminar held at AUDI 801, North South University. The program opened with a welcome address by University Librarian Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain Shoeb, followed by remarks from the Guest of Honour, Professor Nasar U. Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSU. The event featured Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of BALID and former Head of UNIC, as Special Guest, and Dr. Salimullah Khan, Professor, Department of History and Philosophy & Director of the Liberation War Research Center, NSU, as Chief Guest. Chaired by NSU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Nasar U. Ahmed. The seminar was anchored by Sr. Assistant Librarian Mr. MM Shoeb.
Appreciation awards were given to the top three library users and borrowers as part of the closing ceremony. The observance highlighted NSU Library’s continued commitment to strengthening research culture and academic excellence.
