North South University (NSU) Library organized a special Library Orientation Program for the Executive Master’s in Policy and Governance (EMPG) 10th Batch students on Saturday, 31 January 2026. The session was designed to introduce the newly admitted EMPG students to the wide range of services, resources, and modern facilities offered by the NSU Library to support their academic and research journey.
The orientation aimed to familiarize students with library rules and policies, operating hours, borrowing facilities, and research support services available throughout their academic tenure. The session was jointly conducted by Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director, and Mr. Md. Ashikuzzaman, Library Officer, who provided a comprehensive overview of how to use the library’s resources efficiently and effectively.
During the session, students were introduced to the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for searching and issuing books, as well as accessing the library’s extensive collection of e-books and e-journals from subscribed databases. Special emphasis was placed on remote access through OpenAthens, enabling students to seamlessly access digital resources from off-campus locations.
The facilitators also demonstrated several important academic and research support tools provided by the NSU Library, including:
- Turnitin – for maintaining academic integrity and checking similarity reports
- Scopus – for exploring high-quality scholarly literature
- Mendeley – for efficient reference management
- Grammarly – for enhancing academic writing quality
These tools are designed to empower students in conducting quality research, managing citations accurately, and improving their academic writing skills.
Following the interactive presentation, participants were given a guided tour of various sections of the library. Students explored key areas and learned how to use the RFID self-check kiosks, a modern, user-friendly feature that enables independent book issuing and returning. The hands-on experience highlighted the library’s commitment to technology-driven, efficient, and convenient user services.
The program concluded with positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the informative session and the NSU Library’s welcoming environment. The orientation successfully helped the EMPG 10th Batch students become well-acquainted with the library’s digital and physical resources, laying a strong foundation for their academic and research activities at North South University.
