Computer and Internet Use in the NSU Library: Guidelines

Policy

The NSU Library computers are to be used mainly to access the Library’s online public access catalogue (OPAC) and electronic resources (i.e., databases, e-journals, e-books, research tools, etc.) to support noncommercial teaching, learning, and research purposes of NSU faculty members, students, and staff.

General rules

  1. It is mandatory to fill out the required information (i.e., ID number, PC Number, check-in and check-out time with signature) on the sign-up sheet for using the computers every time (for Cyber & AV section only).
  2. All works are suggested to be saved on a cloud/personal storage instead of the hard drives on the PCs. The Library erases the hard disks periodically and assumes no responsibility for data loss or damage.
  3. The contents/computer screens should be visible. Using social media platforms is strongly discouraged, except for academic or research purposes.
  4. It is necessary to submit the ID card of the user to the duty officer for using any additional devices (e.g., headphones, IELTS materials, etc.).
  5. Users should inform the responsible officer of any problems with the computer or other devices as soon as they notice something is not working as expected.
  6. Users should obey the copyright law and licensing agreements for using e-resources and be informed about the Bangladesh Cyber Security Act.
  7. All computers are expected to be turned off 15 minutes before the closing.

Restrictions/Limitations

  1. Trying to install any software or configure hardware devices on the computers, unplugging, removing, or otherwise modifying any equipment without the permission of the responsible officer.
  2. Using another person’s ID or credentials for accessing or invading another person’s privacy.
  3. Engaging in disruptive behavior to others’ concentration, including playing audio from computers and/or portable devices that others can hear.
  4. Displaying violently graphic material on the computer screen and transmitting obscene communications.
  5. No more than one person can use one computer unless otherwise specified.
  6. No user can occupy any PC in their absence, and no excuses will be taken into consideration in such cases.
Misuse of computing and network facilities and unacceptable/indecent behavior may result in suspending library membership and computer privileges in the NSU Library.
