North South University (NSU) Library organized a special Library Orientation Program for the Executive Master’s in Policy and Governance (EMPG) 9th Batch students on Saturday, 18 October 2025. The session was designed to introduce newly admitted EMPG students to the wide range of services, resources, and facilities offered by the NSU Library.
The orientation session aimed to familiarize students with the library rules, policies, operating hours, facilities, and research support services available to them throughout their academic journey. The session was jointly conducted by Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director, and Mr. Md. Ashikuzzaman, Library Officer, who guided the participants through the key aspects of using library resources effectively.
Students learned how to navigate the library’s Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to search for and issue books, and how to access e-books and e-journals from the library’s extensive collection of subscribed databases. Special emphasis was placed on the use of remote access tools like OpenAthens, which enable seamless access to digital resources from off-campus locations. The facilitators also demonstrated several important academic research tools supported by NSU Library, including Turnitin, Scopus, Mendeley, and Grammarly. These tools empower students to maintain academic integrity, manage references efficiently, explore global scholarly databases, and enhance their academic writing quality.
Following the interactive session, students were given a guided tour of the library’s various sections. During the tour, participants explored key areas of the NSU Library and learned how to use the RFID self-check kiosks- a modern feature that allows users to issue and return books independently. This hands-on experience helped students understand the library’s user-friendly and technology-driven services designed to ensure efficient and convenient access to information.
The orientation concluded with positive feedback from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the informative session and the welcoming environment of the NSU Library. The program successfully helped the EMPG 9th Batch students become acquainted with the library’s digital and physical resources, setting a strong foundation for their academic and research activities at North South University.
