The North South University Library successfully organized an informative workshop titled “Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism” on Thursday, 6 November 2025. Designed to strengthen students’ understanding of academic honesty, the session highlighted the importance of ethical research practices and responsible use of information. As academic integrity forms the foundation of higher education, the workshop aimed to help students recognize different forms of plagiarism, understand the reasons behind it, and learn effective strategies to avoid plagiarism in their academic writing.

The session was conducted by Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain Shoeb, University Librarian of North South University, who led the discussion with his expertise in research support and information literacy. During the workshop, Dr. Shoeb explained the key concepts of academic integrity, various types of plagiarism, and common errors students often make when handling sources. He also guided participants through practical methods for paraphrasing, quoting, and properly citing information, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging original authors and maintaining transparency in scholarly work.

Held at the Library Cyber & Audio-Visual Section (E-Resources Browsing Area), the workshop drew a large number of pre-registered undergraduate and graduate students from different academic disciplines. Participants actively engaged in exercises, real-life scenarios, and group discussions that strengthened their understanding of plagiarism and its consequences.

By hosting this workshop, the NSU Library reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible research practices and enhancing students’ academic skills. The session provided learners with practical knowledge and confidence to uphold ethical standards in their writing and research. The library plans to continue offering similar training programs throughout the year to further support students in developing strong academic and research competencies.
