The North South University (NSU) Library organized a hands-on workshop titled “Understanding APA Citation Styles” on Thursday, 30 October 2025, to help students and researchers effectively manage their references and generate accurate citations following the American Psychological Association (APA) style. As part of the library’s ongoing commitment to promoting academic integrity and enhancing research literacy, the session aimed to develop participants’ understanding of proper citation practices and their ability to avoid plagiarism through systematic reference management.

The workshop was designed to introduce the fundamentals of APA style, emphasizing its importance in academic writing and the accurate process of citing various types of sources. Participants were guided on how to cite research papers, books, journal articles, edited books, and chapters in edited volumes, as well as electronic resources. The session also covered the concept of a style guide, the structure of APA referencing for titles, authors, and headings, and demonstrated how to paraphrase, quote, and generate in-text citations properly.

The session was conducted by Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain Shoeb, University Librarian at NSU Library, who shared his extensive knowledge of research communication and citation practices. Through practical demonstrations, Dr. Shoeb showed participants how to construct accurate reference lists and apply APA rules to real academic writing situations.

The workshop was held at the Library Cyber & Audio-Visual Section (E-Resources Browsing Area) and attracted a significant number of pre-registered participants, including both undergraduate and graduate students from various disciplines. The participants actively engaged in the exercises and discussions, gaining hands-on experience in effectively managing their references.

This session was part of NSU Library’s broader initiative to support academic success through skill-based learning opportunities. By organizing such workshops, the library continues to foster a culture of ethical research and responsible scholarship at North South University, helping students and researchers uphold academic standards and maintain integrity in their scholarly work.
