The Central Library of North South University (NSU) organized a three-day Library Orientation Program for newly admitted undergraduate students of the Fall 2026 semester on September 13, 14, and 15, 2026. The program aimed to familiarize students with the library’s resources, services, facilities, and digital platforms and help them make effective use of these resources throughout their academic journey.

More than 500 newly admitted undergraduate students from different departments participated in the program through 12 orientation sessions. The sessions were designed to provide students with practical knowledge and essential skills for accessing and using library resources for their academic and research needs.

The program began with an introductory briefing led by Mr. M. M. Shoeb, Senior Assistant Librarian (Deputy Director); Mr. Abdul Hakim, Assistant Librarian; Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director; and Mr. Tanveer Ahsan, Senior Library Officer. The speakers introduced students to the library’s facilities and services and discussed important information, including library rules and regulations, membership and circulation policies, operating hours, and other guidelines for effective use of the library.

The instructional sessions were conducted by library professionals Mr. Ziaur Rahman, Mr. Rifat Mahmud, Mr. Miron Khan, Mr. Sadat Sayem, Ms. Sumaiya Khanam, and Ms. Amrita Rani Dash. Through hands-on demonstrations, students learned how to use the Library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to search for books and other library materials. Students were also introduced to the library’s subscribed online databases, e-journals, and eBook collections. The sessions highlighted how these digital resources can support coursework, assignments, independent learning, and research.

Adding an interactive element to the program, the library organized an instant quiz competition during the sessions. Students participated enthusiastically, and those who answered correctly received special gifts from NSU Library.

The orientation concluded with guided tours of the library facilities. Students visited key service areas, including the circulation desk, reference section, reading areas, and digital resource centers. The tours gave students an opportunity to become familiar with the library’s physical layout and the range of services available to them.

Through the Fall 2026 Library Orientation Program, NSU Library welcomed the university’s newest students and introduced them to the resources and services available to support their academic journey. The library continues to focus on providing quality information resources, modern facilities, and user-centered services to enhance teaching, learning, and research at NSU.
