The Central Library of North South University (NSU) successfully organized a three-day Library Orientation Program for newly admitted undergraduate students of the Summer 2026 semester on May 17, 18, and 19, 2026. The program was designed to introduce students to the library’s extensive resources, services, facilities, and digital platforms, enabling them to effectively support their academic and research activities from the very beginning of their university life.

Approximately 1,250 newly admitted undergraduate students from various departments participated in the program through 12 orientation sessions. The sessions were carefully structured to provide students with essential knowledge and practical skills for accessing and utilizing library resources efficiently throughout their academic journey.

The program commenced with an introductory briefing conducted by Mr. M. M. Shoeb, Senior Assistant Librarian (Deputy Director), Mr. Abdul Hakim, Assistant Librarian, Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director, and Mr. Tanveer Ahsan, Senior Library Officer. The speakers introduced students to the library’s facilities and services, highlighting library rules and regulations, membership and circulation policies, operating hours, and other important information necessary for effective library use.

The instructional sessions that followed were conducted by library professionals, including Mr. Ziaur Rahman, Mr. Rifat Mahmud, Mr. Miron Khan, Mr. Sadat Sayem, Ms. Sumaiya Khanam, and Ms. Amrita Rani Dash. Through practical demonstrations, students learned how to use the Library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to locate books and other library materials. They were also introduced to the library’s subscribed online databases, e-journals, and eBook collections, providing them with access to a wealth of scholarly resources essential for learning, teaching, and research.

To make the sessions more interactive and engaging, an instant quiz competition was organized during the program. Students enthusiastically participated, and those who answered correctly received special gifts from the NSU Library, adding excitement and enjoyment to the learning experience.

The orientation program concluded with guided tours of the library facilities. Students visited major service points, including the circulation desk, reference section, reading areas, and digital resource centers. The tour helped participants become familiar with the library’s physical layout and encouraged them to take full advantage of its diverse resources and services.
