The Central Library at North South University (NSU) recently hosted a 3-day Library Orientation Program for the newly admitted students of the Summer 2025 semester. Held on May 18, 19, and 22, 2025, the program was designed to familiarize students with the range of resources and services available at the library. Approximately 1,500 students participated, gaining essential skills to support their academic journey.

The event commenced with a comprehensive briefing led by Mr. M M Shoeb, Senior Assistant Librarian (Deputy Director), along with Mr. Abdul Hakim, Assistant Librarian, and Mr. Rajiv Mahmud, Assistant Director. The session covered important topics such as the general rules, regulations, and operating hours of the NSU Library, providing students with a strong foundation for efficiently navigating the library space.

Following the introduction, a series of in-depth sessions took place conducted by library officials, including Mr. Tanveer Ahsan, Mr. Ziaur Rahman, Ms. Sumaiya Kainat, Mr. Badhan Hubert Corraya, Mr. Rifat Mahmud, Mr. Miron Khan, Mr. Sadat Sayem, Ms. Sumaiya Khanam, and Ms. Amrita Rani Dash. These sessions offered valuable insights into using the Library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), guiding students on effectively locating books and other resources. Additionally, students learned how to access scholarly articles and research materials through online journals and eBook databases, providing them with crucial research tools for academic success.

To make the orientation more engaging, an instant quiz was held, where students could demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge. Participants who answered correctly were rewarded with special gifts from the NSU Library.

The program concluded with a guided library tour, where students were introduced to various sections of the library, including the circulation desk, reference section, reading areas, and digital resource centers. This hands-on experience allowed students to feel more comfortable navigating the library and encouraged them to make the most of its extensive facilities.
